SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE WEST END HORROR

Cortland Repertory Theatre, Cortland, NY

Directed by: Shaun Peknic

Scenic Design: Andrea Nice

Lighting Design: Eric Behnke

Costume Design: Wendi Zea

"Scenic designer Andrea Nice has provided us with a late 19th-century English proscenium stage, ringed by photos and playbills from the era, and various object clues mounted on walls. At opportune moments, the back curtain is lit as a scrim, revealing a row of theatrical lighting ropes, a very evocative portrait of an earlier era of stagecraft."

"As often happens, visuals naturally are at center stage, and the scenic design by Andrea Nice is here duly noted....Roving doors, delineating rooms, move about on casters and window locations for characters to peer into the London streets are literally "handled" by characters holding window frames while a character might even ask for height adjustment. It's a variety of design that mirrors the self-awareness and even self-deprecating attitude that drenches this lively play."
